Hong Kong milk restriction order may be revoked in October

Hong Kong has been stabilizing the supply of powdered milk since the implementation of the restriction on formula milk powder departure. The SAR Government will conduct a review and stress test in October. If the measures are shown to be effective, the restrictions will be revoked.

Gao Yongwen told the media after attending the Opening Ceremony of the Member's Office on the same day that the committee set up by the SAR government, industry, and the community on July 3 has started work to formulate guidelines and standards to submit proposals for improving formula milk supply chain to the SAR government.

Starting in January this year, the supply of formula milk powder in Hong Kong has begun to tighten. The SAR Government has implemented the “Limiting Belt Order” for milk powder since March to restrict people who leave Hong Kong from carrying more than two cans of formula milk powder. This measure will quickly protect Hong Kong's market supply and overcome the "milk powder shortage". At the same time, it will also cause Hong Kong's milk powder sales volume to drop significantly.

A spokesman for the Food and Health Bureau said on 3 July that the SAR Government will consider repealing the restriction when the improvement measures prove effective and sustainable operation.
