How are food safety standards approved?

National standards for food safety are developed by the Ministry of Health. The formulation of national food safety standards shall be based on the results of the food safety risk assessment and shall fully consider the results of the quality and safety risk assessment of the agricultural products, refer to the relevant international standards and the results of the international food safety risk assessment, and extensively solicit opinions of food producers and operators and consumers. Approved by the National Food Quality Standards Review Committee.

The formulation of national food safety standards has strict procedures. It is generally divided into the following steps: the development of a standard development plan, the establishment of a drafting unit, the drafting of a draft standard, solicitation of opinions, the review of the committee, and the approval of the Ministry of Health.
