Scientists design the most realistic artificial brain to simulate human brain defects

According to foreign media reports, scientists have designed a new computer software model called "Spaun", which can carry out simple games, painting and mental arithmetic.

The software model consists of 2.5 million virtual neurons, compared to 100 billion neurons in the human brain. Chris Eliasmith, an engineer and neuroscientist from the University of Waterloo in Canada, said: "The software is amazing not because of its computing power, but because it makes mistakes like people."

If you ask Spaun a question, then think about it for a little while before answering your question. The pause is about the same as humans. When giving Spaun a string of numbers to remember it, if the number is too long, it will be unclear. Spaun's comparison of the digits at the beginning and end of the string is clear, and the numbers in the middle cannot be recalled. This memory pattern is similar to humans.

Eliasmith said: "Although the model has not yet reached the level of the human brain, it can reflect some of the rather subtle behavioral details of humans."

Eliasmith and his colleagues at the University of Waterloo said that Spaun was the first physiological brain model to show "behavior" while performing tasks. Because Spaun can do these different things, it can help scientists understand certain human behaviors and even simulate specific brain abnormalities.
