They use plant culture chambers to simulate climate change caused by the greenhouse effect: higher temperatures, higher atmospheric CO 2 concentrations, and less water. The photosynthesis activity was evaluated by photosynthetic apparatus and FluorPen FP 100 chlorophyll fluorescence spectrometer, and the change of surface temperature was detected by infrared thermal imager to evaluate the effect of stomatal reduction on photosynthesis and transpiration of rice under greenhouse effect. .

The end result shows that rice strains with low stomatal density have a greater ability to retain moisture. When grown at elevated atmospheric CO 2 concentrations, low-pore density rice maintains its stomatal conductance while remaining longer under drought and high temperatures. Although the photosynthetic rate of low-pore density rice is lower under certain conditions, an equivalent or even higher yield can be obtained.
As a result, researchers have suggested that fewer pores make rice more conserved when using water, thus obtaining drought resistance. They expect that this new discovery will perform better in the future due to food security threats caused by climate change.
