The reporter learned from the China, Japan and South Korea Summit on Natural Products held on the 28th that at present, Chongqing has tackled the key technologies for the industrialization of Cordyceps sinensis by artificial propagation. It is expected that after five years, Cordyceps sinensis will achieve industrial production.

According to reports, the China-Japan-Korea Natural Medicine Summit Forum is one of the activities of the 2011 internationally renowned R&D institution in Chongqing. More than 50 experts from China, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and the United States have focused on the development of the natural medicine industry and traditional Chinese medicine. The sustainable use and protection of resources, the protection and dynamic monitoring of natural medicine resources were exchanged.

The responsible person of the Municipal Science and Technology Commission said that due to the obvious stereoscopic climate in Chongqing, the city’s natural medicine resources are very rich, with about 5,000 to 6,000 species, mainly concentrated in the Three Gorges reservoir area.

In order to reduce the damage to natural medicine resources, the city is also vigorously promoting the development of natural pharmaceutical industrialization. Take Cordyceps sinensis as an example, its requirements for the growing environment are very harsh. Generally speaking, it can only grow in high altitude areas such as Tibet and Qinghai at an altitude of 3,000 to 5,000 meters. At the same time, insects must “mutate” into adult grasses and must be at the temperature. Below 18 °C can be completed, if higher than this temperature, insects will be difficult to survive. After years of research, the city has developed a new technology that uses ozone, microwaves, water and heat to disinfect eggs and feed, and has pioneered the key technologies for planting Cordyceps sinensis at low altitudes in China. "It is estimated that after 5 years, Cordyceps can be mass-produced and the price will certainly be much lower."
