Ministry of Agriculture: Detection of malachite green in 11 aquatic products

It is understood that malachite green, commonly referred to as greenish crystal with metallic luster, can be used to treat fish, egg parasites, fungal or bacterial infections, but because of its high toxicity, high residue, carcinogenicity, teratogenicity, etc. The harm has been banned by many countries. China also listed Malachite Green in the list of veterinary drugs and its compounds banned for use in food animals in May 2002.

How to identify "malachite green" fish with naked eyes? The first is to see if the scales are colored. After the wounded fish was soaked in a solution of "malachite green" with a high concentration, the surface was green and the grass green was seriously presented. The second is to look at the fins of the fish. Under normal conditions, the fins of the fish should be white, and the fins of the fish after soaking in the "Malachite green" solution are easily colored. The third is to be alert if fish with a bright body color are found.

The supervision and spot checks also found that items such as chloramphenicol, nitrofuran metabolites, and furazolidone metabolites of departmental aquatic products failed.
