The letters A to Z represent the certified speed rating of the tyre from 4.8 km/h to 300 km/h. The commonly used speed grades are: Q: 160 km/h, V: 240 km/h, R: 170 km/h, W: 270 km/h, S: 180 km/h, Y: 300 km/h, T: 190 km/h, Z/ZR: speed higher than 240 km/h, H: 210 km/h. If the ZR is present in the specification of the tire in the instructions for use, such as P275/40ZR1793W, the maximum speed rating (“W†in “93Wâ€) is 270 km/h.
In the most recent regulations for the standardization of tire markings, the instructions for all grades except for the continuously variable Z speed grade include speed symbols and load factors. For example: P225/60R1595H is the tire's use instructions, indicating that the maximum load capacity of the tire is 690 kg, and the maximum speed rating is 210km/h.
