The per capita walnut income of farmers in the main walnut producing areas exceeded 1,500 yuan. Dali Prefecture, located in western Yunnan, is known as “the first city of China's walnuts”. The state's walnut planting reached 10.15 million mu. In 2017, the total output of walnuts is expected to reach 350,000 tons, accounting for 1/4 of the area in Yunnan Province. Production accounts for about one-third of the province.

“The walnut industry is the richest, most powerful and most beneficial industry in Yunnan Province,” said Sheng Jun, president of Yunnan Agricultural University. The Dali State Government and the Yunnan Agricultural University and the Yunnan Provincial Plateau Characteristic Agricultural Industry Research Institute focus on the technological innovation drive and deep processing of the walnut industry, with the core of upgrading the production, creating the second production and strengthening the three industries, with a strong “Dali 漾濞 walnut” variety. Based on the resources and base scale, it will strongly promote the development of the walnut industry in Dali Prefecture and the development of plateau characteristics.

Dali Prefecture is the largest dairy breeding base and dairy production base in Southwest China, with dairy production accounting for 70% of the province. “Original ecological planting techniques of Danshen under the walnut forest” explored the original ecological planting techniques of planting Salvia miltiorrhiza under the walnut forest, and received good results of 3-4 times higher than the pharmacopoeia standard and 6,000-8000 yuan per mu.
